SINGLE REVIEW: By Blue – East Of My Youth

Reykjavík’s own electro-pop dream, East Of My Youth, are back for the first time this year with latest single ‘By Blue‘.

For fans of Vallis Alps and Lykke Li, East Of My Youth‘s tracks are full to the brim with ethereal ambience and tone, and ‘By Blue‘ certainly follows in suit.

Celestial synth magic mixed with heavenly vocals make the track sound like it’s been plucked straight out of the night sky- its layerful presence including harmonies and distortion that only add to its stellar-loveliness.

Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir’s vocals are gentle but still pack a decent punch, sounding almost Florence Welch-esque at times.

When speaking about the single, East of My Youth said:

“By Blue started as a jam session in the studio, so we didn’t realise it’s potential at the time and packed it safely into a drawer of forgotten things. When we revisited the song the whole meaning came through in a new and interesting way. We were going through changes in life and our project, so the song went through a metamorphosis and became something new and unknown to us.”

Formed in May 2015 by Thelma Marín Jónsdóttir and Herdís Stefánsdóttir, East Of My Youth have since wowed audiences at such events as SXSW, Iceland Airways and Sonar Reykjavík, as well as working on their own solo projects involving film composition and pursuing the visual arts.

‘By Blue’ is available on Spotify now, and you can find East Of My Youth on Facebook, Twitter  and Instagram.
