Released today (August 2nd), ‘He Takes Over‘ is the glittery debut from Darlington/Manchester based singer-songwriter, Luke Royalty.
Although Luke has been singing and gigging in bands for years, Luke Royalty is his brand new solo project, the clever moniker of his full name: Luke Taylor.
It’s safe to say ‘He Takes Over‘ is a ridiculously incredible first single, its laid-back sound welcoming listeners into the kingdom of Luke Royalty with ease.
Musically, the track is beautifully reminiscent of the 80’s, with twinkly synths and rolling drums radiating a gorgeous retro energy. A playful bass-line hops below the streams of synth, creating a layer of perfectly cohesive bliss.
Relaxed but not lazy, Luke’s vocals are one of a kind – smooth and soaring yet still containing a good, soulful kick. Backed up with some beautiful harmonies from Jessica Jinks, the two voices are lush when gently combined, an element that really gives the track that extra special touch.
The tracks production is top notch, produced and mixed by Bob Mackenzie and mastered by Pete Meher, whose clients include the likes of The Killers and Lana Del Rey.
Immensely moreish, ‘He Takes Over‘ is three and a half minutes of pure delight, a debut that has really raised the bar for all debut singles to come.
