SINGLE REVIEW: Friends – Safe To Swim

Brighton four-piece, Safe To Swim, are back on the scene with a brand new single, ‘Friends‘.

Released on 2nd November, the track was “inspired by speaking to a couple of friends who had tragically lost someone very close to them“.

Despite the unfortunate inspiration, the track is flighty and catchy from the off. Glistening guitars contrast with pounding drums to create a punchy, indie-rock sound that’s reminiscent of a slightly heavier version of The Magic Gang.

Energy oozes from every crevice of the track, with frontman Jim Filippides’ unique vocals getting progressively more raw and emotional as it unfolds. Lyrics “why can’t we stay here and be friends?” are sang with such passion, and it’s almost certain they’ll be stuck in your head for days.

Simple yet full of depth, the track manages to stay relatively complex whilst maintaining it’s infectious appeal. Elements of synth lighten the track, while massive guitar hooks swing it right back into something quite anthemic.

Friends‘ is taken from Safe To Swim‘s debut EP, which is set to be released in Spring 2019.
